In a week that started with the sad passing of one of our biggest and most loyal supporters, Bernie Leavey, we ended it with a performance that Bernie would have been proud of which sealed a brilliant win against Docs United.
We started the game in great fashion and took the lead in only the 8th minute! Kemari Gumbs found himself in acres of space on the left, the Anguillian Ronaldinho sped forward into the ground in front of him before sending a cross into the box which the goalkeeper could only parry, the ball falling to the feet of the AFL top goal scorer Leon Whyle who made no mistake from close range!
Three minutes later, Docs had their first real effort at goal courtesy of a long range free kick which Shemor Browne comfortably saved. This was the first of a string of fine saves throughout the game from our talented young custodian with the best of the lot coming midway through the second half when he somehow turned a Docs effort past the post which seemed destined for the bottom corner!
In a game where both teams had good periods of possession and chances, we had not only Shemor to thank for saving us, but our back four of Dajaun Jacobs, Khaden Caraby, Isaiah Isaac, and debutant Darlon Guppy who all defended brilliantly throughout, much to the frustration of our opponents.
We scored our second goal of the game in the 58th minute which went onto seal the points! Captain, Javis Jones who was his usual composed self throughout proceedings, did well to beat two men before putting Cardinae Rennie clean through on goal. Talking of composure, 'Booker' did well to keep his, due to two defenders chasing back hard to deny him, but our man brilliantly slipped the ball past the GK from twelve years out to double our advantage!
All in all this was an excellent all round team performance with all of our players contributing massively to the cause which now sees us right in the mix for title honours this season!
